As Easter Sunday approaches, there is a growing sense of anticipation in many churches. Plans are being finalized. Schedules are set. Invitations are extended. Meeting halls will soon be filled with people who have come to mark this important day.
Easter brings a unique opportunity. Many will gather who do not regularly sit under the preaching of God’s Word. They will come with questions, with curiosity, and with a need that runs deeper than they may realize. It is a moment that calls for clarity, conviction, and confidence in what God has given to His church.
At the center of this day stands a simple and unshakable truth:
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)
This is not a message that needs support from human creativity. It is the very power of God unto salvation:
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18)
The church is not left to wonder what to do when the crowds gather. The calling remains steady:
Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.(2 Timothy 4:2)
This Easter Sunday, many voices will be heard and many approaches will be taken. Yet the need remains the same in every heart. People need the truth of God’s Word:
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17)
They need to hear of sin and grace, of judgment and mercy, of a Savior who shall save His people from their sin:
All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. (John 6:37)
So we look ahead with hope. The doors will open. The people will come. And by God’s grace, Christ will be proclaimed.
May He be seen clearly. May His Gospel be heard plainly. And may many come to rejoice in the risen Lord:
“He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.” (Matthew 28:6)
